چکیده
We measured total thyroxin (Tr4), free thyroxin(FT4, total triiodothyronine (TT3), free triiodothyronine (FT3), and thyrotropin (TSH) in serum sampled before and 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 h after administration of prescribed doses of thyroxin to 12 patients with proven primary hypothyroidism. At 2, 4, and 6 h post-dose, the mean values for 114 and FT4 and also that at 8 h for FT4 significantly (P <0.05) exceeded the corresponding pre-dose values. No significant changes were found for 113, Fl3, or TSH. The mean intra-individual CV5 over the study period were TT4 4.9%, FT4 5.7%, 1138.7%, FT3 8.7%, and TSH 20.2%. Individualsubjectsshowed small but predictable changes in 114 and FT4. Changes in 113 and FT3 were greater but random.Fluctuationsin TSH were greatest, but in all subjectswith detectable concentrationsthe variations were of similar magnitude. We conclude that strict adherence to timing of specimen collection in relation to dosage is probablyunnecessary.

Free Radical Activity and Antioxidant Defense Mechanisms in Patients with Hypothyroidism
Free radical-mediated oxidative stress has been implicated in the etiopathogenesis of several autoimmune disorders. Hypothyroidism in humans is widely believed to impair health. The biochemical factors mediating decline in health, however, are poorly elucidated. Pathological consequences of hypothyroidism point to a high potential for antioxidant imbalance. The study population consisted of 60 ...
متن کاملMeaning of serum free-thyroxin values in nonthyroidal illnesses: seven methods compared.
Serum free thyroxin (FT4) was determined in 40 patients with various nonthyroidal illnesses. We studied seven methods: (1) a free thyroxin index calculated from total T4 and triiodothyronine resin uptake; (2) a free T4 index determined by enzyme inhibitor assays (Abbott's "Tetrazyme" and "Thyrozyme"); (3) a free T4 index calculated from total T4 and thyroxin-binding globulin; (4) free T4 by equ...

We compared the clinical value of "Amerlex" (Amersham International) and "Pre-release Coat-A-Count" (Diagnostic Products Corp.) radioimmunoassay kits for free triiodothyronine with that of triiodothyronine, triiodothyronine/thyroxin-binding globulin ratio, and free triiodothyronine index in patients with thyroid disease, pregnant women, oral contraceptive users, thyroxin-binding globulin-defici...
متن کاملAutoantibodies against thyroid hormones and their influence on thyroxine determination with chemiluminescence immunoassay in dogs
Autoantibodies against thyroxin (T4AA) and triiodothyronine (T3AA) are present in dogs with autoimmune thyroiditis and have been reported to interfere with immunoassays. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of autoantibodies and to determine whether interference occurs by T4AA, using a non-immunological method (high performance liquid chromatography, HPLC) for thyroxin (...
متن کاملLipid Profile Abnormalities in Hypothyroidism
The present investigation was conducted to study the contributive role of clinical and subclinical hypothyroidism in causing dyslipidemia. A total of 220 clinical hypothyroidism patients, 146 subclinical hypothyroids and 200 euthyroid controls, with a mean age of 39 years (range25 – 55 years) were included. The thyropropin, triiodothyronine and thyroxine levels of the patients were assayed by e...
